Melchizedek Two-Book Theory Refuted: Part 3

Melchizedek Two-Book Theory Refuted: Part 3
Written by Jim Staley
I spent a considerable amount of time in the first two parts of this series refuting the claim that there is such a thing as the Book of the Law (BOL) and the Book of the Covenant (BOC). Those who believe this claim say that the BOC and the BOL are two entirely different books and that the BOL was only given to the Israelites because of the sin of the golden calf. In part 1 I demonstrated beyond a shadow of a doubt that the two terms are synonymous throughout the Bible and are used interchangeably by both Moses and even Joshua. In part 2 I also unpacked the timeline of the golden calf event and showed how the incident happened exactly the way Exodus portrays it at the end of the first forty-day trip that Moses took up Sinai. This is significant because if the golden calf incident did, in fact, happen at the end of the trip then this entire theory is proven false. This would mean its teachers could no longer claim that the BOL was given because of the sin of the golden calf because God gives commandments from chapter 25 all the way up to the golden calf incident, commandments these teachers say are part of the BOL. Their only response to the clear biblical timeline is to say that the event didn't happen in chronological order as the text suggests. This bold and undocumented manipulation is the main pillar holding up this false doctrine.

WHAT DOES REAL MINISTRY LOOK LIKE? Part 5: Real Evangelism

WHAT DOES REAL MINISTRY LOOK LIKE? Part 5: Real Evangelism
Written by Jim Staley
When we talk about ministry, we cannot help but end up on the topic of evangelism. What does real evangelism look like in the light of a real ministry based on the compassion of Christ? To understand the answer to this question, we must first understand how the current model of evangelism looks at the individual because its entire strategy is wrapped up in how it views the individuals it's trying to evangelize.

WHAT DOES REAL MINISTRY LOOK LIKE? Part 4: Bringing the Kingdom to Earth

WHAT DOES REAL MINISTRY LOOK LIKE? Part 4: Bringing the Kingdom to Earth
Written by Jim Staley
If compassion is the prime attribute of God, then Yeshua is the perfect example and reflection of that characteristic. The power of the incarnation was not in the fact that He became flesh, but in the fact that while we would expect Him to come in glory, prestige, power, and pomp, the Word became poor, powerless, and suffered unto death. And this was not for any common or unrelated reason to His mission. He could have died for the sins of mankind from a completely different social position but He chose to display His complete understanding of what it means to be human by being dehumanized.

WHAT DOES REAL MINISTRY LOOK LIKE? Part 3: The God of Compassion

WHAT DOES REAL MINISTRY LOOK LIKE? Part 3: The God of Compassion
Written by Jim Staley
In the quest to understand real ministry, it's important to understand who we are. And in order to understand who we are we need to understand who God is. Knowing who God is and what He desires from us is paramount to properly understanding what our role is in ministering to His people with the compassion of Christ. According to theologian Bryan P. Stone, "Compassion is intentionally entering into community with those who suffer and working on behalf of their liberation" (1). Compassionate ministry is not just giving someone information or teaching them theological creeds. Real ministry is liberating them from whatever is holding them back from hitting their full potential in both this world and the next.

Melchizedek Two-Book Theory Refuted: Part 2

Melchizedek Two-Book Theory Refuted: Part 2
Written by Jim Staley

In the first part of this series, we took the time to unpack the two-book theory and refute some of its basic tenants. We spent time proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that the terms "Book of the Law," "Book of the Covenant," "Law of Moses," "Law of God," and "the Law" are all used interchangeably throughout the Bible. We showed very specific passages where authors like Joshua and king Josiah called the Book of the Covenant the Book of the Law. We talked about how the Ten Commandments and many other commandments are found in both the BOC found in Exodus 20-24:8 as well as the Deuteronomy second telling of the Covenant, what they falsely separate into a book they term the BOL. We talked about many scriptures in the NT that support the BOL, scriptures that cannot be refuted or twisted to support this false doctrine. In the second part of this series we will talk about the main six pillars that I believe hold up this theory and tackle each one of them, starting with the main pillar, the theory that the BOL was given because of the golden calf incident.
